This piece created by Material Evolution Lab for this exhibition works with a base material of locally sourced Yorkshire Sandstone, or Yorkstone, formed over 300million years ago from silt deposited by prehistoric rivers. Renowned for being hard wearing,
this stone has the unusual property of retaining energy better than most stone. Working with this ancient material, Material Evolution Lab introduces modern responsive ink technology. Past and present function together harmoniously, science working with the naturally occurring properties of the organic material. This evolution in materials that can be used to communicate information visually.
